Its a stag!.

So my neighbour/longtime family friend/practically my sister is getting married in July. Her fiance, John, is having his stag in a couple of weeks. They asked me to design his tickets.

Instead of going for your run-of-the-mill stag tickets that just say John’s Stag, with some pictures of alcohal and maybe some girls, they let me get a little creative. John sent me some imagery he liked (most notably images of stags) and the copy. I chose to use a slightly different size and format from the aforementioned normal tickets, opting for a long and narrow ticket that folded in half. To secure the tickets closed, and give it some weight I added a paper clip which sits so that the loop of the clip is over the word ‘stag’. I think this gives it some masculinity, it being shiny and metal and heavy (compared to the paper) Plus I think its also kind of cool – it makes it stand out a little bit and be a little more different than it already is.

The tickets are to be numbered for some door prices (the same number on each half of the ticket), so I chose to originally have them perforated (I was going to do this by hand, along with all the creasing and cutting to save some costs) about a half inch under the fold. This way the guest is able to keep their ticket stub until the draw, but its also something they can keep as a keep-sake because its designed. After I printed out the first batch of tickets, I realized that a) my method of perforating them was horrible and not going to work and b) if I’m going to be at the door the night of the stag taking tickets , then I will be the one ripping them in half and it makes more sense to just cut them along the fold.

All in all, I’m really happy with them, especially with the fact that they actually do something. You have to open them up to get to the information and the idea of flipping them open reminds me of a match book – something also very masculine.

If you’re free the night of May 29, and want to go to an awesome party with a great dinner, an open bar, and lots of prizes, then give me a shout.
