Tasting the Danforth.
Last night I shot the Taste of the Danforth VIP Launch Party at The Local Company for Steel Bananas. The Local Company has a really nice atmosphere, and for someone like myself, coming from Mississauga, getting into trendy downtown Toronto restaurants is definitely a treat. As much as I like Mississauga, we’re really missing out on the good stuff.
What I thought would be a sample of The Local Company’s finest, turned out to be something more: a smörgåsbord of the many different restaurants and foods from along The Danforth, displayed conveniently in a 15-foot or so line infront of me for my tasting pleasure. It was fantastic, rosemary lamb rolls, gnocchi, chicken legs, ribs, the ubiquitous greek salad with feta cheese and souvlaki. Despite all the marvellous food, my personal favourite was by far the calamari. Coming from an Italian family that proudly celebrates the fish-fest that is Christmas Eve, I’ve had my fare share of calamari. The calmari I tasted last night was the best (not better than Nonna’s of course) I have ever had. Ted Killin, the resident SB food writer said the same of the rosemary lamb rolls, although I never got a chance to taste those.
The food was excellent, the atmosphere was grand, and all in all, t’was a good night. Check out the August Steel Bananas for Mr.Killin’s review of The Taste of the Danforth.
