OSX Win, Blackberry Fail.

Just installed the new OSX, Snow Leopard, on my unibody macbook (don’t get me started on the new 13″ macbooks) and so far, it looks good. The biggest thing I noticed was the amount of space the actual OS takes up on my hard drive. Before I installed, I had 93 GB free, now I have 111 GB, a savings of 18 GBs! Crazy! I’m gonna tinker with it a little bit over the next few days and see if I can notice a big change. The big test will be on Sunday, when we publish The Medium. It will be a 12+ hour day of photo editing and designing with the CS4 suite, so if there is any difference in performance, it will definitely show itself then.

On a slightly unrelated note, my Telus Blackberry Pearl 8130 bricked itself today. The radio/antenna won’t stay on, so I cannot connect to the Telus network. My network strength bar dialogue on the top of my screen will be at 1X EVDO showing up and down transfers, and then will automatically turn to Off. I go into manage connections and it will be listed as off with a red x, so I select turn connections on. There will be transferring up and do at 1X like before, but after approximately 50-60 seconds, will again automatically turn to off. It will not stay on, so as a result, I cannot make or receive calls, or send or receive e-mails. If by some stroke of luck, my phone manages to stay connected for longer then the 60 seconds, and I am able to make a call, the call will last for exactly 18 seconds, and then the call will end, and the network is listed as Off.

I am on my third Blackberry Pearl 8130 since January of 2007. My contract is 3 years, so I have a little of a year left on it. I received the blackberry I have now in May when the blackberry I had then had a malfunctioning microphone. I could not use speakerphone or the built in microphone to make calls. I don’t remember what the problem was with the one before that.

I am so sick of blackberries. I hope all the rumors are true and Telus will get the iPhone sometime early fall when they roll out their new HSPA network just in time for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. I think that is my best bet. In the mean time, I hope they give me a refurbished phone to replace this one. Apparently most mobile companies have some policy that states if a phone breaks three times, they will give you a refurbished or a great deal on a new phone. It’s either that, or I will be using my Dad’s old phone, which means no data. Atleast it’ll save me 15 bucks a month.

We shall see. I’ll keep you posted.

[...] Antenna. That was my third Blackberry pearl. The radio/antenna won’t stay on for longer then 1 minute. It will automatically turn to “off.” I brought it to Telus, and they can’t fix it. Temporarily, I was going to use my brother’s old HTC Touch, but after a day using it, there is no way I can last until January on it. I need my blackberry. I ordered a refurbished one today – $130. It will be here in 10 days. More here. [...]
